Text of the lecture of Bucaille on 'The Creation of Man, Creation or Evolution' in Chicago in 1987

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ ثُمَّ صَوَّرْنَاكُمْ ثُمَّ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلآئِكَةِ اسْجُدُواْ لآدَمَ فَسَجَدُواْ إِلاَّ إِبْلِيسَ لَمْ يَكُن مِّنَ السَّاجِدِينَ {7/11}

"We created you and thereupon We fashioned you and thereupon We told the angles to bow down to Adam".

Man was fashioned harmoniously such is the mention of Sawa which is applied to man in Chapter Al Hajj and moreover in Chapter 82 Infitar Verses 7 - 8

الَّذِي خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّاكَ فَعَدَلَكَ {82/7} فِي أَيِّ صُورَةٍ مَّا شَاء رَكَّبَكَ {82/8}

"God is One Who created you and fashioned you harmoniously and in due proportion in what so ever form He willed".

I will continue with verses of the Qur’an which speak fort themselves. Chapter Al Tean 95 Verse 4

 لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ فِي أَحْسَنِ تَقْوِيمٍ {95/4}

I have translated it by “We fashioned man according to the best organizational plan".

The Arabic word تَقْوِيم  means to plan something in an organized way. The verse in Chapter Noah which states that God crated you in stages Atwar, I suggested in my book that that word Atwar which appeared once in the Qur’an could be related to transformation undergone by human species.

Finally one has, in his mind, the data provided by fossils concerning the successive waves in our species. How could one not compare these findings with the two verses in Chapter Al Insaan:

نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَاهُمْ وَشَدَدْنَا أَسْرَهُمْ وَإِذَا شِئْنَا بَدَّلْنَا أَمْثَالَهُمْ تَبْدِيلًا {76/28}

"Verily We created them and strengthen all of them and then if We thus willed We would replace them completely with people who were of the same kind”.

One can find between the Qur’an and well establish data of paleontology clear compatibility.  We read in Chapter 4
Al Anaam Verse 133

إِن يَشَأْ يُذْهِبْكُمْ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ وَيَأْتِ بِآخَرِينَ وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ قَدِيرًا {4/133}

“If God wills he destroys you and in your place appoints whom he wills.”

These verses completely emphasize on disappearances of certain communities and their replacement by others according to the will of the God through the ages. What better compatibility and many other disciplines. Let us remember that these ideas were absolutely unknown at the time the Quran came to the knowledge of man. Such is important lesions a scientist must draw from these facts to have a valid knowledge of the origin of the man. How could we come to another conclusion?
